It's a week past Thanksgiving and we've essentially wrapped up the bulk of our farm work for the year. Followed by a few days away visiting family for the holiday. Now I'm back to business making plans for our 2016 season.
A few things have been decided at this point.
1. Based on a sudden reduction in workshare help (illnesses, moves, employment issues, etc.) we are reducing the number of CSA shares offered for 2016. I am personally saddened that there isn't more interest or availability of people who can be more involved with the hands-on production of the foods they eat, but I completely understand how busy we all are with family and work responsibilities. I'm in that same situation (farmer, wife, mom, etc.) - thus the decision to reduce the size of the CSA.
2. The price will stay the same as well as the basic plan for the foods we grow, dates and duration of the CSA, etc.
3. We are in need of a volunteer to help transport our produce each week from Alpine to Jackson. Sending CSA shares to Jackson has gone smoothly for the past several years, largely due to having someone helping us make the weekly drive. Our previous "driver" is no longer able to continue in this role due to work commitments. We are looking for someone to fill this need. This is a trade arrangement. One full share in our CSA in trade for transporting the coolers of produce from Alpine to Jackson from mid May through mid October (about 22 weeks). Usually meeting in Alpine at about 4 pm. Please let me know if you know anyone who is interested.
4. After much thought, deliberation, and "research", we have decided to add a $50 per share "delivery fee" for shares going to Jackson. With a reduction in income (from the reduced size of CSA) we need to be more mindful of expenses. It costs about $1,000 to have shares going to Jackson. This wasn't so much of an issue when there were 20+ shares going that way, but this will no longer be the case. I have compared our prices to other CSAs in Jackson, asked opinions of others who live and work there, etc. and this is a solution we feel is reasonable and fair.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Holidays!
Tara
