Several people have asked when our 2016 season will end. Right now, I'm planning on making our last delivery on Wednesday, October 19th. Several factors will dictate if we can make it to 22 weeks, such as weather, how much food we have to harvest, and having enough help. I'm being optimistic and giving it all we can to go out with great produce shares these few more weeks.
This late into the season, our weekly farm planning starts to be affected more by the weather. It's wonderful to have a week of warmth and sunshine but looking ahead I see harvest days with predictions of rain and possible snow. This causes me to think about what foods we should harvest now while the weather is favorable and which crops can wait a week and more tolerably be picked and cleaned up on a bad weather day. Basically, it comes down to greenhouse crops vs. outside crops. Fortunately, there is enough food still available at EverGreen Farm that I can be a little flexible with planning out a weekly harvest list. We've also been really fortunate that the freezing nights haven't taken too much of a toll on the foods we are counting on eating for the next several weeks.
Have a great week and ENJOY your veggies!
